What can you do when you suddenly have no water? Part 2 of 3

November 20, 20252 min read

It’s most likely going to happen when it’s least convenient for you. You’re going out or come home after a long day and can’t wait to relax. Even on (… easy as…) Sunday morning, WelGard® responds to Members without water.

No water…? No fun…. Panic sets in… and then you remember – it’s WelGard® to the rescue!

When panic hits in a sudden out-of-water “moment”, we ask a few questions to try to get the water back on immediately, and without waiting for a service call.

Last month, we covered the circuit breaker. (Email us if you need a refresher)

This month, we ask question #2 which is “Do you have water treatment equipment?” to see if we can eliminate another frequent cause of a sudden water crisis.

Many treatment equipment brands have electronics (“heads” or “brains”) monitoring/regulating the effectiveness of the equipment. Some stop the water flow if the equipment malfunctions or wears out. For example, we had a Member with a UV light (an optional piece of equipment) that stopped the water – TOTALLY – when the UV light bulb burned out.

With such equipment, our next question is “Can you bypass the water treatment equipment?” Bypass valves/pipes are frequently installed to accomplish this, and you should know how they work. In the picture below, the horizontal pipes join the main (vertical) pipe. Valve #1 is closed, while #2 and #3 are open allowing water to go to and through the water treatment tanks. In this case, bypassing would involve opening valve #1, thereby allowing the water to flow into the house directly from the pressure tank.

Also, pay attention to the condition of the sediment filter (see circled item “A”) which can stop or significantly lower water pressure if it gets clogged; it may require frequent flushing to keep the internal water systems running at peak performance.

Water equipment bypass testing remedies approximately 15 – 25% of our Members’ calls with complaints about sudden water stoppages.

But as always, if these simple fixes don’t get your water flowing again, call us at WelGard® anytime.

And ALWAYS, we’re ready for your emergency calls 24/7/365

Thanks for being a WelGard® (Family) Member; and for letting us help. Stay tuned for “Tip #3”.
